The Most Absurd Relationship Advice You’ve Ever Heard?
The Most Absurd Relationship Advice You’ve Ever Heard? Maybe Not.
I recently came across an online post where people were sharing the most absurd relationship advice they had ever heard. This one caught my eye: Their grandfather told them that fear and competition are the foundation of marriage. At first, this seemed completely off-base. After all, doesn’t a strong relationship thrive on love and trust—not fear and rivalry?
But then I dug a little deeper, and it started to make sense.
What if fear didn’t mean living in constant worry, but rather, showing up in the relationship as if you were scared to lose each other?
What if the “competition” was less about outdoing one another and more about competing to show each other the most love? In that context, the advice starts to feel less absurd.
Of course, relationships shouldn’t be fueled by fear or the pressure of always trying to “win.” If you’re constantly worried about losing your partner, that could signal deeper insecurities. But the point is, you and your partner should always be there for each other—going out of your way to show love, care, and commitment. In a sense, it’s about showing that you’re unwilling to lose the person you love, and that dedication will fuel a stronger, more connected relationship.
It’s not about fear and competition in the traditional sense, but rather a commitment to prioritizing each other in the best possible way. Now, that’s advice I can get behind.
