TORO Charges Into Glory: Texans Mascot Elected to Mascot Hall of Fame
Today, Houston’s own TORO has roared his way into immortality — officially inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame on none other than National Mascot Day.
The Texans’ bull-headed hype machine, known for his headstands, high-fives and launching t-shirts into the upper decks, has finally received the recognition he’s been charging toward since 2001. TORO is more than a fuzzy face with horns — he’s the spirit of Houston in fur form. He’s danced in the rain, crowd-surfed in 100-degree heat and kept Texans fans hyped all season long. That deserves a medal… or at least a plaque and unlimited nachos.
TORO’s résumé is stacked: 11-time Pro Bowl Mascot, NFL Mascot of the Year in 2021 and in 2024 he snagged Social Media Presence of the Year and Skit of the Year.
The Mascot Hall of Fame, based in Whiting, IN, honors mascots who demonstrate top-tier athleticism, community involvement, and the ability to get an entire stadium to do the wave. TORO has checked all those boxes — and occasionally flipped over them on an ATV.
When reached for comment, TORO responded with an enthusiastic thumbs-up, a cartwheel and an airhorn blast. Classic.
Fans and furry friends from across the league celebrated his induction with heartfelt tweets, confetti, and a suspiciously large foam finger!
Congrats, TORO. Next stop; convincing the hall to install a mechanical bull in the lobby.
Now that he’s cemented in mascot history alongside his Houston brothers-in-costume, the Houston Astros’ Orbit and the Houston Rockets’ Clutch the Bear, Houston is now the only city with three major sports mascots in the hall. If mascots were superheroes, we’d have the full Avengers lineup.
